Some of my buddies just gave me a belated graduation present. A 250 watt, 12" high end subwoofer. My 5.1 setup is finally complete. The first dvd I threw in to take her for a test drive was Dark City… every beat thudded through the whole room, and not even a hint of distortion, it was silky smooth.
Ahhhhh hifi heaven…
Its a good thing I’m friendly with my neighbors!

OOOO, I hate you!
I mean that in the most congratulatory way possible.
I have bass. Not quite as much as you, admittedly. Just finished lugging a stupidly heavy 500W 5.1 sound system home from Melbourne (including several unpleasant tram trips). The sub is 188W I think… something like that. Very sweet. And I’m about to move into a new place. I’m sure the neighbors will love it.
So yes, I agree - subs rule. Congratulations on the acquisition.

I have some fat woofers on my front L & R speakers so no need for sub, but perhaps one day if I’m on the ground floor I’ll pick one up. My system stays at 5.0, and that’s the way uh huh uh huh I like it.
p.s. Saving Private Ryan is a good system “calibrator”
Ah, I know exactly where you’re coming from. I picked up a sub last fall. Now my system is sitting happily at, uh, 4.1. It’s not quite as much sub as you’ve now got, but it’s more than enough to forcibly extract your teeth when playing the DTS track from LOTR:FOTR.
