Got Milk?

Why do they advertise milk, cheese and eggs? I mean, they are ‘staples’ in North America, so why do they feel the need to make up jingles and really cheesy (pun intended) ad campaigns? who’s behind it all?

It’s the animals. They are trying to make us overly dependant so they can TAKE OVER THE WORLD…

But seriously ther is an anti-milk lobby out there as well as for any other milk product. Their claim is that milk is not good for adults. Once you’ve been weened you should stay away from the stuff they say.

Sales of softdrinks are also taking away from milk profits
so the dairy industry must push its product just like any other industry. They don’t want you to drink milk only in the morning.

Eggs I don’t know about.

Here is a site that warns of the dangers of milk.

Many diet faddists shun dairy products because of their high fat content and since America has lots of vocal faddists, the dairy folks need to be more vocal in their own defense.
Eggs especially but cheese and milk that are not lowfat tend to have a high percentage (>50%) of calories come from fat but the average diet recommendation is to limit total caloric intake to about 30% fats. It’s impossible to stick by this general guideline if you have a diet that’s high in dairy products. From this site: http://www.ars.usda.gov/is/np/fnrb/fnrb496.htm

This is from 1996. Egg and cheese consumption on the other hand seem to be increasing but egg exports are bigger for us.

People advertise things for many reasons, chief of these is to increase demand for products. Even staple products can vary in their usage. Associations of farmers or other producers of commodities will sometimes join together to try to increase sales or awareness of their products, which can of course increase their profits. For example if an ad campaign for milk increases consumption by 10%, one could expect a corresponding shift in profits. Or as others have stated they might even just be trying to offset a trend in reduced milk consumption.
