Ha ha! Drool and weep folks! I just bought my first motorcycle! An ancient beater 1980 Suzuki GS 750.
The price was very good, the bike is in tip-top shape (the famed “single owner”), it’s being sold by a friend of mine, who has promised to leave the parts bike at his place and will help me do whatever minor maintenance pops up-- like winterizing.
While bikes and leathers go together well and are my preferred arrangement, I’m for some reason prone to heat stroke/dehydration/heat exhaustion and full leathers exacerbate it in my local hot and humid weather. I’m willing to trade the possibility of a hospital trip for (haven’t yet received) roadrash for (more IVs than I care to remember) heat prostration. But that’s just me. Please don’t kill me.
In addition, as Barbarian is a board member, I’m certain he’s fully aware of all of his local safety recommendations, requirements, and suggestions. I’m also certain he’s going to have a hell of a lot of fun

Nah, chique, don’t worry. It’s your own call. If you want to take the risk, then that’s fine. Hell, I’ll ride in jeans too if it’s just the 5 minute ride to work (within city limits, top speed is 50 km/h). It’s just that as a standard advice, leather is supposed to overrule denim.
I’ve seen bikers without helmets in Arizona. Surreal. I sometimes ride without a helmet for 20 meters when I have to push-start my bike (goll durn coldblooded Yamaha piece of crud. Damn small battery, too ;)), and even that feels weird.
Oh, I’ve been wearing a leather jacket and full-face helmet on my 50 cc scooter for the past year and a half-- and I bought leather pants earlier this year when I took my lessons.
