Wings was the quintessential band of my Junior High Years. The Beatles were for the Baby Boomers. I had McCartney and Wings.
1976 was their epic nationwide tour with the original Wings lineup. They filmed a lot of footage back then and it’s finally reissued and out on DVD.
I’ve had the DVD and CD preordered for quite a few months. Can’t wait to rip this CD and get it on my mp3 player. It’s going to be in heavy rotation for quite awhile.
McCartney gives a rare personal interview about the forming of Wings and his reaction to the 1976 video footage of Linda and his family backstage.
I always admired the way Paul went back to basics after the Beatles broke up. He wanted to make music for fun again. The early days of Wings they just piled into a bus and traveled around Britain. Calling ahead at colleges to book informal concerts. Recreating the fun days when he first started in music. Eventually Wings got big and it became a professional band just like the Beatles. Forming two legendary bands is quite an achievement.
I’d love to add the DVD to my collection (I really enjoyed Good Evening NYC), but there are some troubling reviews about the sound quality. Have you seen the DVD? How does it sound?
I just got the DVD today. I plan to watch it in the next day or two. I don’t have a high def tv system. I’m not sure I’d notice any minor sound issues. I’ll probably just watch the DVD on the computer. My tv dvd isn’t hooked up right now.
I’ll post comments after watching the DVD. I’ve also bought the CD just for the music. I have a hi end stereo system with a Denon CD player, Amp and speakers. If there’s anything wrong with the CD I’ll know it.
It’s also out on Blu Ray for fans that what Hi Def. Sure hope it’s got a good sound track.
Bumping the thread because I got a copy of the Rock Show DVD this weekend. (If Paul isn’t dead, is this thread still a zombie?)
If you’re a fan of Sir Paul’s early solo stuff, you should definitely check out this DVD. The restoration(considering the source material) is excellent, and I didn’t notice any sound issues with my copy. Wings at that stage was a great live act, and this DVD shows Paul and the band in fine form. One thing I really appreciated was the lack of MTV-type music video cuts --it’s nice to have the camera linger on the players for a change. It’s a little sad watching Paul grin and wink at Linda across the stage, knowing what was to come. And when Jimmy McCullough takes the spotlight to sing “Medicine Jar”, you just wish he would’ve taken the lyrics to heart. Other than that, though, it’s a terrific addition to anyone’s Macca collection.
