Govenor Scott Walker (R) WI

And here in lies the… well LIE.. The unions had already conceded much of what he was asking for in the agreement that was signed before Walker became Governor. They have conceded all of what he was asking for monitarily since. There is no wait time.

Have you guys seen this?

It was posted in another thread that was locked since this one already existed.

I’m sure how unbiased Racheal Maddow’s opinion is, but she is suggesting that it is a matter of life and death of the democratic party. The only big contributors to the Democrats campaign came from unions. If Unions can be eliminated, than so can the opposition to Republicans.

No, it’s their job to protect their constitutents. It’s called representative democracy. Suck it. The Wisconsin 14 are heroes.

Just out of curiosity, why is it that right wingers have such hatred for people who work for a living?

I’m sure you feel the same way about the Republicans in the US Senate, who have blocked votes on almost every single bill the Democrats have brought to the floor for the past two years.

Just because the US Senate has passed rules that make blocking a vote as simple as picking up a phone, but the rules in the Wisconsin make it a little harder, what they are doing is functionally exactly the same. The minority preventing the majority from being able to vote on their legislation. So how about some denunciation of the Republicans while you’re at it?

Showing up to work is not a plus when you refuse to do your job while you’re there.

There is nothing remotely non-biased about Ms Maddow. Why I almost never miss her show. Well, that, and her swan’s neck, girlish giggle, and mind like a steel trap. Sigh.

She is probably exaggerating, but not by much. Point being, even if she is wrong about that, the enemies of unions and Democrats clearly believe it is true. Its like ACORN all over again, using the power of the legislature to solidify a particular political persuasions grasp on power.

Are you against chickenshit moves by both parties, or just Democrats? Because Republicans are the biggest cock on the walk when it comes to chickenshit. It’s about time Democrats started giving as well as they take.

Oh, they don’t hate all of us, just the ones who demand a living wage, benefits and working conditions. All the illegal workers who are too afraid to speak up suit them just fine.

Just to remind everyone here: I’m totally an idiot. But I’m not Nadir.

A democracy is not a winner take all proposition. It is essential to have an opposition that makes sure that the people not currently in power get their voices heard. Governor Walker refused to have this thing debated he refused to let anyone see it before it hit the floor. He presented it as a fait acomplit and essentialy told the media when he did it that he had the votes and there was not a damn thing that he had to listen to the Democrats about. It was a big old FUCK YOU to the 43 percent of the state that didn’t vote for him.

The founders did not intend that government run fast. The procedures like filibuster or quorum were put in place in order to keep one side or the other swing things too fast.

I’m on the teachers’ side in this, but I don’t think this is accurate. I don’t think rules of order were established by the founders at all. I know the filibuster only exists because of a mistake the Senate made when it re-wrote its rules in the 19th century, and the founders had specifically discarded similar ideas when discussing the Constitution.

True. But at the end of the day, somebody is going to win and somebody is going to take something. WI democrats just cannot seem to swallow the fact that it will not be them this time around. The GOP is in power, and they are going to win this round, no mater how dastardly, evil or underhanded anyone feels it is, true or not. I suppose it sucks to be a dem or public union worker in WI right now, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbles.

Conservative tides are swelling everywhere these days, not just in the U.S., either. Traditional bastions of liberal ideology in places like France are about to crumble as well. The pendulum has swung. Get over it, do your job, buck up, work for more change, whatever.

Be a man (or woman) and get with the program. Don’t be a whiny, whimpering little schoolboy (or girl) running away from problems and crying like nobody loves you. :smack:

Actually, a whiny, whimpering little schoolboy would probably fold like a cheap suit and take whatever scraps the Republicans choose to give him. Fuck that forever. Progressivism WILL win out; the forces of Conservatism (as it exists right now) are, at their root, based in fear, hatred, and ignorance. There will be no “getting over it”, and the civilized among us WILL drag your sorry caveman asses into the future, whether you like it or not, by the motherfucking hair, if we have to.

Nadir - In the long run, Conservatism always loses. That is a historical fact. Get with the program and lead the change, rather than try to hold back the ocean.

And this might cost him, too, because there’s a big light rail and public transport move going on in Minnesota, and people in Wisconsin hoped for some of that money. So that’s how Republicans create jobs----by turning them down and cutting people’s pay, which means they spend less money and reduce the amount of spending power they have?

Meanwhile, in Minnesota, the Union Depot project is going to bring 3,000 jobs to the economically dead downtown St. Paul area and consolidate all the various forms of transport in one central area. Who’s going to feed those 3,000 workers? Do their dry cleaning? Guard their cars in the parking lots, or sell them books and magazines and beer and stuff for dinner on their way home? Jobs create jobs.

Big transportation projects in this country have a history for abysmal failure - either outright or becoming financial black holes for the governments supporting them.

Cite?

I know! Let’s let people lose jobs because they can’t afford cars. Or get anywhere, because gas is too expensive. And all that.

I know this is a shock, but sometimes, the government helps its citizens because they need help. And what does your comment have to do with my comment at all? That’s at least 3,000 jobs that weren’t there before. Do find a reason as to why that’s bad. I’d love to hear it.

“According to this Virginia is the 6th wealthiest state overall in the United States…”

That would be Northern Virginia across the Potomac from DC. Take away Fairfax county and the horse country a little further out and they drop like a stone.

So if that “big light rail and public transport” crap is your argument for the WI unions, they need to find some better supporters.

Just another big pork-sucking democrat supporter you are, bitch.

Amen Burton. Take away Loudon and Fairfax and I would think VA would drop to mid 20’s.
