Tomorrow morning, I’m attending a short reunion event in Charleston for the West Virginia Governor’s Schools.
I know from my various net meanderings that other states have these schools as well - state-sponsored few-week “camps” for talented student types.
So I’m curious - who here has attended a Governor’s School/Academy? In what state? What was it like?
Of course, there are lots of similar programs - I know WV has “Boys’ State”, “Girls’ State”, and “West Virginia Honor Roll”, to name a few. Feel free to share those, if you like.
The West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy was a 4 (now 3) week “camp”, held at one of the state’s colleges (rotating locations occasionally). 2 students were selected from each of WV’s 55 counties, and then some counties got a third slot, to fill up the approximately 150 berths for the Academy.
We selected a primary and secondary ‘course’ to attend at these academies - courses were fun, and educational. We also attended a variety of cultural activities, and there was a trip to Washington D.C. as well.
