gps tracking

I am looking for a small gps device (watch or small pocket sized) gps tracking device with tracking software. There appear to be alot on the web. Does anyone have a specific recommendation, a system that is easy to use, accurate, and likely to not go bankrupt in the near future?

Both Garmin and Magellan make fine units. There are a range of models, and you don’t tell me enough to recommend one. The biggest question is whether you want a map displayed on the handheld unit, or you just want it to log your locations which you’ll later download to a computer with their software.

Also, have reasonable expectations for it. I’ve tried using it to map out bike trails through the woods near my house, but it wasn’t practical because the tree cover interfered so much with the satellites that the position error was around 300 feet.

I mainly want to log my locations on my home computer. I am into geocaching and that is a good way to review my hunts.

Any cheap GPS from Garmin or Magellan can do this. The free EasyGPS software linked from Geocaching’s page works great for uploading/downloading waypoints, so you don’t need to spend extra for the manufacturer’s own software.

You’re into Geocaching, and you don’t yet have a GPS???
