GQ about Oscars: What musical instrument was Sting playing?

It’s a GQ but it’s about the Oscars, so I put it here.
It’s an unusual, revolving instrument that I’m not familiar with. (Incidentally, while I love Annie Lennox I’d have so voted for My Ain True Love- just a hauntingly beautiful song).
