Grammar: Each vs. Every

When do you use each of these?

Here’s my sentence:

Should I use Each or Every?

Don’t give yourself unnecessary problems.

The monthly newsletter brings you delicious recipes etc…

Each to his or her own. Every time.

Yes.

Either is correct, I think. I would say to use “each” when you wish to emphasise distinctness:

“Each month the newsletter brings you new recipies, articles, and fun facts.”

Use “every” if you wish to emphasize regularity:

“The newsletter is delivered every month, without fail.”

If you don’t care about the emphasis, use whichever you like best.

General agreement with the previous posts, with one caveat: I would only use “each” if the monthly newsletter in question is indeed published 12 months out of the year. If the newsletter in question has combined June/July summer-celebration or November/December holiday-bonanza isses, use “every” instead of “each.”

“Each” implies partial fulfillment toward a whole, which “every” does not. If you aren’t publishing a newsletter every month, then there isn’t one for each month.

For what it’s worth.
