Shit! Looks like typos might be another distinction.
Mr. Mace, perhaps you’re already familiar with this description of learning that I saw on a chalkboard somewhere:
- unconscious incompetence
- conscious incompetence
- conscious competence
- unconscious competence
(what this has to do with anything else I have no idea, but it seemed interesting)
So how would you quantify not-Zen?
Mr. Ligouri, I suspect that lack of ability is merely a matter of logistics, not intent.
Mr. Idiot, good point, but I believe great apes have opposable thumbs. However we’ve often speculated, hubby and I, as to the potential that would be unleashed if our cats had opposable thumbs.
I like your point about fire, Mr. Terrifel. Am still pondering that one, and was hoping someone more qualified could clarify that dog buddha issue. I suspect the art point goes back to thinking-about-thinking, being aware of your process.
Fessie:
That’s easy.
Not-Zen is everything. Everything is not-Zen.
Give me something challenging, man!
Me too, actually. I apologize, it was a fairly lame attempt at humor on my part. Since you guys were discussing Zen and animal consciousness and all, it just seemed to follow naturally somehow. Anyway, it struck me as funny at the time… I hope Master Chao-chou T’sung Shen cuts me some slack when I get to Zen Heaven.
