Granite State/Green Mountain Boys

The Beloved and I are thinking of dipping down into Vermont and New Hampshire in September. Any thoughts on what to see?

A king-size bed, a naked sweetie and…

maple syrup.

LOL! (but not showing it to the Beloved)

How far down? What are you into (bedides maple syrup?)

Go to Franconia Notch and see The Flume and the Goddess’ Bath and The OLd Man of the Mountain.

Then go to Lincoln and stop in the shops and restaurants. Take the Kancamangus Hghway across to Conway. Along the way stop and hike to see all the hidden waterfalls. When you get to Conway and Crawford Notch see the restaurants THERE and the waterfalls in that side. Visit the outlet stores. Go to Mount Cranmore and ask them about what they used to have instad of a skilift.

Go back to I-93 and drive down to Squam Lakes Nature Center.

Go further down to Canterbury Shaker Village (there’s another Shaker Village at Enfield, N.H.)

Take the touristy route and visit Clarke’s Tradin Post and Polar Caves and Lake Winnipisaukee. Drive amost all the wat south and see America’s Stnehenge. Go to Portsmouth and visit Strawberry Banke (bring lot of money). Or ignre Strawberry Banke and tour the town. You can see a lot of neat shops and restaurants and a house where John Paul Jones lived … very briefly. There’s a GREAT barbecue place and a couple of excellent used book shops.

Go further down the coast along Route 1 or 1A. Go antiquing. Visit Hampton Beach. Freeze in the water.
In Vermnt go arount Brattleboro - grea shops. Visit the Joseph Smith House or the Brigham Young House if you’re curious about Mormonism.
Go to the Norman Rockwell Museum. Hit the out-of-season Ski Resorts and hike dwn the mountains.

Visit the zillion used book shop all over the Vt-NH countryside. stay in a B&B and pretend it’s run by Bob Newhart.(You can go back to Squam Lake and see where they filmed On Golden Pond).

Pick up a guide book for more reliable iformation. Go to http://www.roadsideamerica.com for the zany stuff.
