Unfortunately: My boss decided to retire and close the business, which means I’m unemployed.
Fortunately: I knew about it in advance and had started to line up some work on the side.
Unfortunately: I’ve never really done this before so I don’t know how much to charge.
I know there’s a number of designer Dopers out there and wanted to see what the going rate in the fine town of Chicago is. I have over 7 years of experience and consider myself a senior designer with project manager experience thrown in.
I currently have two rates. My “client rate” which is work directly for a company…ie not an agency, but the end user. I charge them $50 to $100 an hour. with $100 being the more usual rate.
My problem point is my “agency rate”. I’m considering taking a long term (like 3 month) job with a shop and figure I should drop my rate down to something more economical…seeing as how the work is guaranteed.
So what do you all think?
Any other advice?
