Nevermind, by practicing my Google Fu, I’ve come up with thislink. A guy breaks down the video and stuff and talks about how PETA is trying to sort of brainwash easily impressable children. For those who don’t want to read, basically the same points that have been listed above were mentioned: the difficulty of skinning an animal alive, the lack of actual bunnies, PETA is crazy, etc. So that’s good to know that this isn’t happen en masse; it’s still disturbing to know that people are doing it at all though.

This is the thought that I had immediately. Doesn’t seem there’s any pragmatic pay off for this behavior. It’s not cheaper and it’s not easier.

Man, am I glad this was apparently a one-time staged video and that this isn’t the usual practice of obtaining furs (which, I thought, made no sense at all; who wants to be bitten and scratched while skinning an animal?). Things are bad enough without having that horror added to my life.

On the topic of whether the video was staged or not, I think this is a particularly damning quote, considering that the PETA page said that the movie was “undercover” footage:

A man in street clothes is about to skin a raccoon dog alive. Another man appears to be instructing him with such expressions as "You should do this." Meanwhile, a clearly surprised on-looker asks, "You will skin the animal alive?"

After the animal has been skinned, another on-looker calls to the photographer, "Take a picture here quickly. The animal is still alive."

I strongly urge readers of AC to visit the links above (particularly this one) and get a sense of the history of animal “snuff films.”

How somebody who would set up such a hideous scene of torture could call themselves an activist for “animal rights” is beyond me.

I’m thinking that the initial head bashing was a shred of decency surfacing in the butcher and even more evidence that this was staged. He can just be ignorant because even the most back-woods moron will eventually figure out that awake animals hurt you back. And, if he’s just a real psycopath, then why would he bother even partially stunning the animal? It’s much more likely that they found some guy and told him to skin the animals alive. He agrees, but his conscience is nagging him. So he tries to stun them a bit, first with the stick and then with the ground bashing, but it only holds until he’s part-way through the skinning. At that point, there’s really no turning back. Unless he just kills the poor critter outright, but then he’s out the cash.

My little study on human behavior. Sorry if this was mentioned before.

Oh, and can this thread to go the Pit? I have so many chioce words for PETA and the fudgers who put this on.

You’d be surprised by how many True Believers of whatever philosophy cleave whole-heartedly to the eggs/omelette formula…
