Grate in Corner of Jon Deere Bagger? Purpose?

It’s me and my endless saga with a John Deere tractor and the Little Instructions That Wouldn’t. The manuals for even these nice, “apple-pie USA products” are useless with skimpy instructions and small, blurred photos. No assembly drawings or exploded views provided at all so one may have the big picture, literally.

Anyway, my question is about a seemingly useless “D”-shaped, hard plastic grate surrounded by a “D”-shaped rod metal frame. The bagger attachment has this “D” shaped grate (with rod metal frame) that supposedly attaches on the underside of the hopper top. The rod metal frame, I should add, has one little “foot” located on one side of the “D” which juts away from the frame (and grate) perpendicular to the plane of the grate. Instictively, one would say the foot is providing support, but in practice it does not seem to do much. Anyway,
it appears this “D”-shaped grate (with frame) just sits in the right hand corner (driver’s right hand) serving no purpose whatsoever because:

A1) The chute is physically to the left of here.
A2) The exit of the chute points away to the left of here, too.
B)The two mesh collection bags (mesh for better airflow and allegedly more even filling) are also to the left of here.

In fact, everything is to the left of here because you’re in the right corner! So, what purpose can this grate. I tried to find a link to the manual, but I only see links to the tractor’s manual. It’s be the 6.5 bushel rear bagger, though.

I should add that: Although the grate is held to the rod metal frame, it looks like the grate may swivel once installed - held by spot ties on one side of the “D”. OTOH, there isn’t much clearance in there for it to swivel, and I’m not sure where it’d be swivelling to! Any clue what the purpose of this piece is? - Jinx
