Always wondered if you mix a big dog with a little dog, like mating a Great Dane with a chihuahua what would happen and what it would look like. Has this been done?
I suppose if it was a male chihuahua mating to a female great dane, it could be done. I would imagine the female chihuahua would be damaged after mating with a male.
Question is why do it in the first place when there are so many short hair breeds of various sizes to choose from.?
Not quite that extreme, but my grandmother’s neighbor has a teacup chihuahua and a doberman who did the deed. (The chihuahua is the male.) The puppies looked like any little puppy, but they were bigger than daddy. They grew into sort of short-dachsaund looking things. They have tiny little legs and long snouts. One of them has his daddy’s oddly round forehead, but the others are just sort of generic “dog” looking.
Nobody’s sure how the chihuahua…reached. The vet thinks maybe the bitch lay on her side or something.
I’d think even more damage would be done by trying to carry a larger-sized puppy to term.
I lived in Burbank, CA in 1995. The house I lived in had a male Lhasa Apso as a pet. Next door was a female Rottweiler.
No, the two did not get together. But we figured if they ever did, we could call the result a RottsaApso.

The puppies will almost always be porportional to the mother, not the father. They may grow to the father’s size once they’re born, but they don’t generally give the mother much trouble before that. (Bulldogs excepted, of course, because of humans mucking about giving them too-tiny hips.) I’m sure there have been exceptions, but it’s not generally a concern.
Many, many times. If the smaller dog is the bitch in the relationship, a cesarean section is typical. Offspring look like mixed breed dogs, just like any other pairing of two different breeds.
