Has anyone ever had a plan for building a bypass canal from Georgian Bay (Lake Huron) to Lake Ontario?
There is a canal from Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario: the Trent-Severn Waterway. 
One of the greatest feats of late-Victorian colonial engineering.
