Which are some of the best one-person shows of all time? I’m thinking mainly of stage acting. Some that come to my mind are:
Patrick Stewart in "A Christmas Carrol"
James Whitmore’s Give 'em Hell Harry
Ricky Jay & His 51 Assistants

Andy Jones in Still Alive.
I loved Patrick Stewart in A Christmas Carol.
I also loved Coco Peru in Why Peru?
Castaway???
It was Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants, and it’s way cool. So cool, in fact, that I learned two of his routines verbatim. (The opening bit with the queen productions, and a section of his gambling routine where he demonstrates different shuffling styles.)
I saw Spaulding Gray do “Gray’s Anatomy”. That was pretty cool.
I’d love to see Patrick Stewart’s “Christmas Carol”.

Spaulding Gray’s “Monster in a Box” is very good as well, but I like “Gray’s Anatomy” a little more.
Blown Sideways Through Life by Claudia Shearer(?)
It was a one woman show where she talked about having had 52 jobs, everything from waitress to receptionist in a whorehouse. Funny and uplifting. I saw in on PBS one time and have been unable to find a tape of it.
BTW, she later appeared on a episode of Friends.
His Swimming To Cambodia is a masterpiece!
And I remember seeing Mickey Rooney do a one man play on TV back in the late 50s or early 60s in which he was in his room trying to work out a way to fend off a loan shark he owed money to. Just Mickey and a telephone. Great piece of work!
Does comedy count?
In that case, anything by Bill Hicks and to a lesser extent, No Cure for Cancer by Dennis Leary.

The Search for Intelligent Life in the Universe written by Jane wagner, starring Lily Tomlin.
** Tell Me On A Sunday **, Andrew LLoyd Webber’s show for a solo woman. One of my favorites.
