I am looking for a new game to play on PC, but I don’t want to play anything that has any element of game play affected by micro transactions. I want to buy a game and pay everything I need to pay up front, without having the game try to convince me to pay more money to improve my gaming experience.
“Paid for” cosmetic enhancements (like new skins), I guess, are not to bad but I would prefer if they were absent too.
I also want to push my gaming rig on something that has great graphics.
So what are some recent-ish PC games that satisfy as much of the following list of requirements (in order of importance) as possible?
I like the look of Prey. Good suggestion. I’ve played DOOM and Skyrim. I have not played Fallout (any of them), might give it a go.
Assasin’s Creed Origins could be another idea. Apparently their usage of micro transactions are fairly harmless.
I’ve been having lots of fun with Watch Dogs 2. Cosmetic micro transactions are present and I have all three multiplayer options turned off in the settings.
Have you considered VR games or getting a 21:9 4k monitor to fully make use of those double 1080Tis? Otherwise, I doubt you’ll find much that allows your GPUs to stretch their legs.
Wolfenstein: The New Order was stand alone with no DLC. The newer game, The New Colossus, has a season pass but those are separate stories that don’t impact the main game.
Mad Max didn’t have any DLC which I thought was sort of strange for a WB game but there ya go.
I guess there’s a question here of what you consider a microtransaction. Are you including full on paid expansions (extra game content, etc) or just the nickel and dime stuff? For instance, Witcher 3 has paid DLC but no “Buy an armor chest key for only $1.99” nonsense.
I played all the way through Watch Dogs 2 (on the Xbox One). A fantastic game with lots of ways to play it. (I preferred to use remote control stuff almost exclusively, so fun!)
I like messing with the cops when not doing missions. Hang out at the beach east of Rhonda’s and see how many patrol cars I can tell to go into the bay.
Yeah… Watch Dogs 2 made me a bad person. If someone made me angry, like they insulted me or tried to cut me off, I’d use a hack to say they were wanted for terrorism. Then watch SWAT show up and arrest them.
If I was really feeling naughty, I would cause the cops to have feedback on their headsets, which would temporarily incapacitate them. The suspect would usually run in fear. The cops would assume the terrorist suspect did it and shoot him or her.
On a less evil note, I’d have a mission to infiltrate a place run by a gang. I’d set up a gang war with a rival gang and sit back while I watch everyone kill each other. Then casually walk around the dead bodies, and pick up cash they dropped, and complete my mission without firing a shot or sneaking around or anything.
Or make robots go berserk and turn on their own security guys…
I forgot how much of a masterpiece that game was. One of the best experiences ever and it never got old.
So, they learned their lesson and made a good game with the sequel? It’s 66% off on Steam so I might give it a go depending on review and what you have to say.
Thanks, didn’t remember. Do the microtransactions make it as pay-to-win or grindy as most other games that involve microtransactions?
I have two problems with WD2 and both have to do with graphics. Sometimes tabbing between windows results in the game being displayed on the wrong monitor; other times, this results in people being and items getting very blurry when moving.
I see my drivers have been updated again, maybe that’ll help.
