I have heard of this certain religion by the name of Obeah and the Obis who live in the mountains in Central and South America, and they seldom come down into the villages, but if you go to them they can cure you. They use smoke from a fire and throw various things into it, I think.
However, some accounts say that they can do various bad things and then it comes back to those who used them. Anyways, what does Dr. Randi say about this Obeah religion and about eight or ten other ones more or less connected with Voodoo?
Um, why don’t you ask Randi? This is Cecil’s board. A good place to answer a question about James Randi’s opinions would be James Randi’s site.
Randi’s site is at http://www.randi.org/ .
My own opinion, which you didn’t ask for :), is that the rites practiced by these people in all likelihood have neither the ability to cure you of all disease nor leave you with a lasting run of bad luck. As religion, more power to 'em; as medicine, the effects are probably no better than placebo or hebal tea.

Also, if James Randi is a doctor, he needs to update his résumé.
