I just watched this show on the NFL channel. It’s about Tom Brady’s career, and the six QBs who got drafted ahead of him (he was like the 192nd player selected, sixth round). Very well done, lots of insights from players and coaches, most of whom were smacking themselves for overlooking Brady. I don’t know if it was on before, but I’m sure it will be on again sometime. If you get that channel, look for it.
I remember Superbowl 36 when a lot of people were still saying that Brady was just lucky to be playing on a great team that carried him so far. Obviously, he’s proven those people wrong.
What was really interesting was when they showed clips of him at the scouting combine, and he really did look like an insurance salesman had somehow sneaked in to the tryouts. His 40-yard “sprint” looked like he was warming up; his physique looked like he had never been in a gym. But I guess he can read defenses better than anyone, with the possible exception of Manning. Seems like by now they would have some kind of video game that tested for that.
And he may not be built like Clay Matthews, but he’s tough. Steve Mariucci was talking about the QB that he drafted ahead of Bradley (which really hurt Bradley’s feelings, since he grew up idolizing Joe Montana and really wanted to play for SF), and he said the guy (whose name I forget) got sacked a few times in the preseason and was never the same, he just lost his confidence. He’s a goat farmer now.
Don’t feel too bad. At least you remembered Bradley’s name.
Wow, that’s interesting. I wonder what I was thinking. Tom Bradley was the guy who took over when Paterno was fired, but I don’t care about Penn State. And there was a Tom Bradley who was mayor of LA, but he doesn’t look much like Tom Brady.
