great victory for the homophobes!

** Thylacine** Maybe this will give some help?

Wishing you and your SO all the best.

What’s up with the thread title? I thought, “Finally, a reliable electronic gaydar device, or spray on gay repellant.”

da-da-dum-ching

Um, maybe this wasn’t the right time.

Well?

Just wanted to add to the chorus by expressing my most heartfelt sympathies to you, Thylacine, and your significant other. I can’t believe the cruelties that people must face in relation to another’s prejudices and discrimination. I am SO disgusted at humanity in general, that all folks are still not treated equally without regards to race, sex, religion or orientation. I wish there was some way for the rest of us to help everyone going through this. :frowning:

And although it doesn’t mean much, I won’t be able to keep from thinking good thoughts about y’all’s situation. I’m wishing you both all the best in the coming days to deal with this. Hang in there.

Why can’t your SO become a permanent resident? I’ve got 3 friends (one a married American couple, the other a gay waiter) who all became naturalised citizens in the last few months.

Yeah, right - well that’s probably going to happen during Bush’s second term

Well, indeed!!

The country that Thylacine hails from does not recognise gay marriages. They have not been given the ‘seal of approval’ because our conservative P.M. believes in and promotes the white, anglo, protestant, heterosexual hegemony. He is most avowedly pro-family and anti-everything else. Whether he fits the classification of being a ‘homophobe’ remains open to debate, but there was certainly a lot of cheering and handclapping from the REAL homophobes when he recently declined to accept legislative changes that would see gays and straights enjoying the same rights.

Now, that is why Thylacine’s personal dilemma is a public victory for the homophobes. By preventing her from enjoying a full and satisfying life with her partner, they have scored a notch for bigotry and discrimination. Again.

Do. You. Understand. Now. [SIZE=0 ya fucking retard.[/SIZE]

Isn’t it against the rules here to advise people to break the law?
Not that I think keeping homosexual couples apart is a good thing.

Oh, now I understand. Well, score another point for the homophobes.

Bloody sorry to hear this news, Thylacine. Laws discriminating on the grounds of sexual orientation make my blood boil, but unfortunately we still have old-fashioned ways, and old-fashioned minds in power, heeding to an old-fashioned, but vocal sector of the voting public.

That this has cost you such happiness and joy is beyond tragic. :frowning:

Thylacine, that bites. Hard.

But can I offer a suggestion? It’s a long shot, but it might be worth talking over a MARA agent with: Tasmania (no, I’m not joking, I am seriously talking about the little bit of Australia to the south of the big bit of Australia with the reputation of being a redneck wonderland) has recently introduced the relationships register. This means that same-sex couples, resident in Tasmania, can register officially and get the same legal status as het couples. It applies to things like superannuation and adoption of stepkids and so on - it might help swing some weight if you were willing to move to Tassie.

I may be holding out a false hope here - it may not apply to immigration, or a relationship where one couple is overseas. But it might. It might be worth a phone call or two - there’s a Tasmanian GLBT rights group or two that’s fought pretty hard for this and they might know - I can get you the phone number if you want.

I’m really sorry for what you’re going through…

A few years ago, my partner got a green card and we decided to move to the US from Canada… It took me over 5 years to get a green card to be able to stay here permanently with him… That was as a professional with 3 degrees in a high demand job…

If we had been a married straight couple, I would have been allowed to come with him as soon as he crossed the border… Even if the marriage had taken place on some reality TV show, or if we had met and gotten drunk and married in a Chapel in Vegas the night before…

As long as they’re straight, they’re worth more than us in the eyes of the INS unfortunately…

My heart goes out to you and your partner…

Gah, one half of the couple…

I believe what you were trying to say was “must… resist… using… pea-sized brain”

Go back to your potato field you fucking Neanderthal…

Excuse me if I am overeacting, being almost new here, not having as many posts as you, and not having paid much attention to any of your previous posts, but, is that some kind of inside joke that I didn’t get?

If the answer yes, consider me whooshed and I appologise in advance. If the answer is no… well buddy, you are one cruel idiot.

You were whooshed. There have been many arguments around here, trying to convince those who don’t believe it that one’s sexuality is not a choice.

tavalla I am actually glad to hear that.

Can someone also reassure me that we were being whooshed by county?

That’d be real nice.

No, I think county is really and truly an idiot.

Bugger.
