Tony Manero strutting down the street in Saturday Night Fever.
This is one of my favorites, establishing the character so beautifully in a few moments–especially these ten seconds.
Rick’s first appearance in Casablanca. An hand reaching for a check,a signature of approval on the check, a tap on a chess piece, pick up a cigarette - pan to Rick’s face.
Errol Flynn as Robin Hood in The Adventures of Robin Hood. Not one great entrance, two. (Just watched it.)
^ Don’t you worry, nevah fear, Robin Hood will soon be hear.
I just watched a longer version of the clip, and never realized that Dracula’s castle was infested with armadillos (1:45)!
^

That is a magnificent set. But it seriously needs the services of an exterminator.

Renfield is scarier than Dracula. Run, Count!
Of course–Dracula was pretty posh.
(Go there, do that, get the tee-shirt.)
Not sure this counts, but this is the first time the character was shown as he really was.
(Doubly impressive for the technology of the day.)
^^ So, did the Count spread leprosy throughout the countryside?
Great swinging entrance w/bonus narration: Burt Lancaster in The Crimson Pirate
Tarzan, The Ape Man (1932) has a pretty swinging entrance too.
It’s a great entrance, but it’s not THE entrance – we already saw the character in the crypt.
Interesting thing – in the original film, although we see coffins crack open and wavering hands emerge from them, and one of the “wives” sitting up in the coffin we never actually see any of the vampires getting out of the coffins. I suppose there’s some reason for it, but it’s not clear to me. Maybe they couldn’t do it gracefully. But the Spanish version shows Drac getting out of HIS coffin.
I’ve commented on the armadillos before, as have many others. There’s also what looks like an opossum. at 0:3 in the clip below. Maybe Browning thought the armadillo and opossum looked like oversized, misshapen rats. What gets me is the bee with its own miniature coffin (at 0:39)
The T-Rex in Jurassic Park.
First the goat disappears.
Then the eye of the dragon.
Then…what we all came for.
The Wrath of Khan again, but Kirk’s entrance.
The movie opens on the bridge of the Enterprise, with all our favorite characters there except Kirk. Instead, some young Vulcan woman is in the center chair. We have no idea who she is, where we are, or what’s going on.
Over the course of the next three minutes, the ship comes under attack, the regular cast members are killed one by one, and finally the Vulcan prepares to abandon ship.
Then, we hear Kirk’s voice off-screen, “All right, open her up.” A wall splits open and Kirk, in silhouette, strides in.
Freakin’ brilliant.
The Accountant in Drive Angry as the truck full of hydrogen leaps over the hill into the camera. Been awhile since I’ve seen it and it might not be the first time he is shown.
DennisThe Stay Puft Marshmallow Man in the original Ghostbusters.
And a great swerve too. The rumors that Spock would die in this movie were all over the place. Killing him off in the opening scene throws the viewer for a loop and sets up a guy punch when he actually does sacrifice himself later on.
I’d say vaguely inspired by the original book, as these things often are.
