Greatest living American elimination game (game thread)

Decisions are getting tougher here at the end.

Warren.

Yeah, it’s getting painful to cast these votes.

Warren.

Warren

Jose and Dolly could have both just kept their heads down and done their jobs. No one expects a chef or a singer to try and fix the world, they could have just stuck to their pots and pans or guitar, but they saw a need and stepped up in a huge way.

Warren

As I said before, I take nothing away from Jose and Dolly’s good works. I just don’t see them as GLAs, given the many others in the running from the outset.

I continue to find the persistence of Dolly Parton bizarre, and am voting for her again.

She’s a popular singer who seems like a nice person and has funded a lot of worthy causes. In other words, she’s Taylor Swift or Bruce Springsteen, but on a smaller scale. If we broaden it to entertainers in general, that also describes Magic Johnson and Stephen King. Why has she hung around while all these people have been voted off?! “Jolene” is a good song, but it isn’t “Born to Run”, The Stand, or game 7 of the 1980 Finals.

Also, unlike Johnson, King, Swift or Springsteen, Dolly has never explicitly advised her fans to not vote for Donald Trump. As I said about Dylan, that alone should absolutely disqualify her from GLA consideration.

Jumping on the Warren bandwagon

Dream bigger, fight harder!

(that was her slogan in 2020, I think I still have a sticker around somewhere)

I think you have consistently underestimated her contribution, one in seven children under the age of five have received a book from her, children enrolled in the program receive books from birth until age 15. It has been doing this for decades.

As for Dylan, he had this to say about Trump in 2004, as far as I can tell, it’s the only mention of him.

“I mean, who’s the last individual performer that you can think of – Elton John, maybe? I’m talking about artists with the willpower not to conform to anybody’s reality but their own. Patsy Cline and Billy Lee Riley. Plato and Socrates, Whitman and Emerson. Slim Harpo and Donald Trump. It’s a lost art form. I don’t know who else does it beside myself, to tell you the truth.”

No surprise, my vote’s again for José Andrés.

I will go with Andres.

Andres

I nominated Andres for the thread, but I think this is the right spot to vote for him.

Still on Parton.

Obama, for his drone terror campaign, how he didn’t push back on the Republicans nearly enough, his half-assed response in Syria, but most of all for his anemic response to Russia’s invasion of Crimea, which emboldened Putin to continue his aggression,

Obama.
