Lots of scores by Jerry Goldsmith mentioned. I think his score for Chinatown ranks right up there with his score for Patton.
I was going to say that no one does “Action Patriotic” better than Goldsmith…but I don’t think anyone else does it at all
Here’s Rambo…starts off like 70’s NFL highlights then kicks in.
Capricorn One One of the best themes ever
Now I need to look up who did Seven Days in May and Red Dawn

Here is just about every Star Trek theme you can think of. Thankfully, they used the outro for ***Enterprise *** instead of that gawdawful opening theme. This perfomance really blew me away:
[/QUOTE]Can’t do an hour and 22 minutes right now but I like classical music so will watch it eventually. Saved it to my music favorites.
The theme from The Exorcist was pretty good. I know Mike Oldfield wrote Tubular Bells which was used in the movie but I don’t know if he did all the music.
Main titles, Cocoon/James Horner
End Titles, Journey of Natty Gann/James Horner
Gotta add “I Could Have Danced All Night” and “I’m Getting Married in the Morning” here.
Sadly, they only know one verse, but Robert Shaw makes a really cool Nazi: ![]()
Whistle down the wind, 1961.
Score of the movie, not that ALW abomination based on the movie. Charted in the UK, even though it was just an instrumental: people liked it.
By Malcolm Arnold, who also did Bridge over the River Kwai (Best original score, 1958)
- Umbrellas of Cherbourg
- Sorcerer
- Your Name
TLTE
- Nino Rota’s body of work.
That was the remake of Wages of Fear, right?
I really have to see that someday.
That’s it, and it’s amazing! Tangerine Dream’s score really dials up the tension.
Tangerine Dream has done other great movie music as well: notably their work on Michael Mann’s fantastic Thief. And let’s not forget “Love on a Real Train” from Risky Business!
The soundtrack for Rock ‘n’ Roll High School is amazing; one of the best theme songs ever IMO.
Sorcerer has Roy Scheider in it, sweating. When you wanted an actor to sweat, Scheider was your man.
VICTORY AT SEA I know all you old farts have seen all the newsreel episodes.
Richard Rodgers did some 12 piano themes but the actual orchestration was done by Robert Russell Bennett.
NBC created a feature-length (89-minute) motion picture condensation. The feature-length version was narrated by Alexander Scourby who replaced Leonard Graves, the narrator of the 26-part series.
“RCA issued the Rodgers-Bennett musical score in four different album versions, released on LP and CD. The listing below is based on the 1992 remastered recordings from RCA called Victory at Sea (13 tracks) and More Victory at Sea (11 tracks). Selections from More Victory at Sea are marked by an asterisk (*). Note that the More Victory at Sea album also includes “Special Effect Battle Sounds” as part of many of the tracks…”

Another enthusiastic vote for The Godfather.
Last time I felt blown away by a soundtrack was the use of music in The Joker.
Yes, with score by Tangerine Dream.
I’ll also add Terry Gillliam’s “Brazil” to the list’
We played a selection from this when I was in High School band.
Later I bought a recording of the Victory at Sea Suite, which excerpts portions from the series, re-arranged as a free-standing orchestral piece.
Rogers later re-purposed “Beneath the Southern Cross” as “No Other Love” for the stage musical Romeo and Juliet
I haven’t yet read this entire thread, but I’m going to assume the soundtrack from the movie Black Snake Moan hasn’t been listed yet.

There’s a lot worse music out there than hearing Samuel L. Jackson jam out to Mississippi Blues. I love that soundtrack.
