Greatest TV Theme Song

Oh! If only Rosie O’Donnell were here! Does anyone know the full lyrics to the Wonder Woman theme? Is there a website I could get them from? Did the show have different lyrics when it was brought back as The New Adventures of Wonder Woman?

Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!

All the world is waiting for you
and the power you possess
In your satin tights
fighting for your rights
And the old red white and blue

Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!

Now the world is ready for you
and the wonders you can do
Make a hawk a dove
stop a war with love
Make a liar tell the truth

Wonder Woman!
Get us out from under, Wonder Woman

All our hopes are pinned upon you
and the magic that you do
Stop a bullet cold
make the axis fold
change their minds and change the world

Wonder Woman!
Wonder Woman!

You’re a wonder, Wonder Woman!

The page where I found these has a link to another page that was supposed to have lyrics to the “other” version, but the link is broken. :frowning:

How bout where in the world is carmen sandiego? oh and the fresh prince of Belaire (sp)

(my number one is the Monkees)

I think the criteria for a good theme song is that you can sing/hum the tune 20+ years later and you automatically start tapping your feet. And other people join in. Even if the show itself wasn’t all that good. My nomination?

Theme from S.W.A.T. by Rhythm Heritage. That was one funky-ass tune.

Honorable mentions include: Batman, Hawaii Five-o (the show itself put me to sleep every time but the opening song with the Hawaii montage got me all amped every time), What’s Happening, the Spiderman cartoon, Sanford & Son, Fat Albert, Streets of San Francisco, Kids in the Hall, Miami Vice, Welcome Back Kotter, Rawhide, and others I’ll remember later…

And conversely, the lyrics of Gilligan’s Island fit perfectly into the tune of Stairway to Heaven!! What the heck is going on here, some kind of cosmic conspiracy, or just incredible coincidence?!?!?

Okay, no lyrics, but I can’t freakin’ believe nobody’s mentioned the theme to Hawaii 5-O. (Or maybe they did and I overlooked it…)

I would like to add another vote for the extremely short-lived “Freakazoid.” Very bouncy and snappy.

Family Law
Stark Raving Mad
and for an instrumental, Hill Street Blues.

Danger Mouse
Get Smart
Hogan’s Heroes
The Muppet Show
The Avengers
Lost In Space (2nd theme)
The Tomorrow People (original series)
Jamie and the Magic Torch
Thomas the Tank Engine
Darkwing Duck
Black Beauty
Supergran
Monkey Magic
Powerpuff Girls
HR Puffnstuff
Dr Who (Peter Davison era)
Charlie’s Angels
Magnum PI
Buck Rogers in the 25th Century
Land of the Giants
Blackadder the Third (closing theme)

Oh and so much more.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Maude. I’t had a great beat, the lyrics were groovy and it was completely representative of the shows premise…A giant, scary woman in a polyester duster.

  • Isadora was the first bra burner, aint you glad she showed up
    Oh yeah
And when the country was fallin apart, Betsy Ross got it all sowed up
    And then there’s Maude…*

I mean come on

“Are Ya’ Ready For Some Football?” …get’s my nod!
What’s that catchy little tune from Simon & Simon ?

I think the music from NYPD Blue wins, hands down!

Lots of winners mentioned.
Just wanted to do my part to start that endless loop in your brain. Thank me later.

George, George, George of the jungle…

Sunny days
Sweeping the clouds away
I’m on my way to where the air is sweet.

It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood
(Pay attention to the backing jazz riffs)

We’re gonna zoom zoom zoomazooom

I was going to bring up Jay Ward cartoon themes, but you beat me to it. Actually, “Superchicken” is the best:

When you find yourself in danger
When you’re threatened by a stranger
When it looks like you will take a licken
(chicken noises)
There is someone waiting who will
Hurry up and rescue you, just ca-aall for
Super Chicken!

And if you’re afraid you’ll have to overlook it
Because you knew the job was dang’rous when you took it
(more chicken noises)

He will drink his super sauce
And throw the bad guys for a loss
And he will bring them in alive and kickin’
(chicken noises)
There is one thing you should learn
When there is no one else to turn to
Caa-all for Super Chicken
(chicken noises)
Caa-all for Super Chicken!
The theme to Scooby Doo is great too, but I’m not going to write it out.

My favorite is the theme song to Dragon Tales (a kids’ cartoon show on PBS). The lady who sings it has a really nice-sounding voice, and the melody is appealing. Her voice hugs the contours of the melody with a perfect fit. (The lyrics are nondescript, however.)

I really appreciate hearing a woman singer with a good voice, because the singer of the theme to America’s Funniest Home Videos really sucked. A drag on the ears.

I second the nomination of Sanford and Son–that was my favorite instrumental back in the 1970s. Also The Rockford Files.

I like many of the ones mentioned, so I’ll try to add some I haven’t seen here yet.

Non-lyric - St. Elsewhere

Lyric - I don’t know if it fits the qualifications, but I still get the theme song to Cupid running through my head for days on end. It’s called Human.

“Here I come to save the dayyyy”

“Yessir, when there is a wrong to right, Mighty Mouse will join the fight”

Thank you, Lucie, I always loved that and no ever remembers!

I’ve heard a recorded version of “Stairway to Gilligan’s Island”. I’ve also sung the words to Green Acres to the music of ‘Purple Haze’. Freaky, try it!

In no particular order…

  1. The Monkees - those who know me shouldn’t be surprised
  2. Cheers - Almost brought me to tears singing this song at “Sing Sing”
  3. Good Times - Scratchin’ and survivin’
  4. The Jeffersons - The bar I was at last Saturday played this song at the end of night. The people in the bar went crazy!
  5. Green Acres - Just try not to sing along

No lyrics…

  1. Night Court - Funky
  2. Taxi - Reminds me of when I was a kid
  3. Sanford & Son - Gwa gwa GWA na, gwa gwa GWA na na na NA na

I guess this will only be remembered by the older crowd in here

There’s a hold up in the Bronx
Brooklyn’s broken in out in fight’s
there’s a traffic jam in Harlem that’s backed up to Jackson Height’s
there’s a scout troop short a child
Kruchevs due ant Idlewild
Car 54 where are you?

Ok time for my nap

The theme song to ‘AirWolf’ is the best one I’ve ever heard. There arn’t any lyrics, but if someone hummed it in an elevator I’d know it…also Tales from the Crypt is good for that too. If you need lyrics I vote for ‘Dukes of Hazzard’
