Has anyone else read these books (or played the 1984 computer game)? In it, humans have fled Earth to escape war and they try to create a primitive society on a jungle planet with giant trees or grunds with no violence at all. Some of them are imprisoned beneath the ground under an impenetrable root created with psionic power, and they form a society, but this causes those powers to fade away slowly. Then, a young girl from underground finds the upper world through a hole and threatens to destroy the government and power structure with her existence (the people are kept ignorant of those prisoners).
A rather interesting series and I’m a pretty big fan of it ^_~ They are young adult novels.
I did! Played the game first, then read the books. Loved them so much! A few years ago I found an emulator so I could play the game again in its full 16-color glory (we only had 4 colors back in the day)–still good.
I read the series “Below the Root” “And All Between” “Until the Celebration” when I was a kid in the 70’s - never knew about the computer game (I should reread the books sometime - I remember enjoying them very much).
