SPOOFE, I’m absolutely perplexed by your interactions here. It’s too bad you felt the need to escalate to this extent. Other than some harsh criticism in the OP, I think I’ve maintain a bit of moderation in this thread - just because something’s in the Pit doesn’t neccesitate a hissy fit.
But to clarify, because I really think you’re purposefully misinterpreting things:
Could you direct me to where I said I was worried about “looking bad”? What I’m worried about is drawing attention to me being on a “typical message board”. Since the SDMB is not a “typical message board”, it is those few instances of spoiler boxes and large, red fonts that do so. It also seems that the only times people pay attention to what website you’re on is when those screens appear.
The repurcussions at work of being seen on a message board are nil. But what does happen is that I feel like an unproductive slug. Is that my problem? You betcha - I never insinuated otherwise. Are there things I can do about that? Yup:

Ender, thanks. I don’t seem to be getting across that I see a difference between the SDMB and other message boards. And I also see the apparent contradiction therein that others are seeing/interpreting. Maybe if I included an anecdote about two separate occassions of someone seeing me reading the board and being interested, and the same person seeing me read the board with a big spoiler box and mentioning something negative. However, it still remains my problem, and I’ve yet to deviate from that position in either thread.
Regardless, I see the “I’m worried about looking bad” aspect. Of course the entire beauty and hygiene industry would collapse if everyone held SPOOFE’s attitude regarding their appearances.

I had no intention of pissing you off, Munch. Certainly, had I known that you’d go all apeshit over my post (and, yes, I’ll admit that my post was lame, perhaps inconsiderate) then I wouldn’t have bothered with that remark. Yet, honestly, I find it hard to believe that you didn’t expect to see it coming. And I do take slight offense to your accusation that I “shat all over your thread.” Although people may have groaned over my unfunny and predictable post, they certainly didn’t seem put off by it nor did it result in a hijack of any kind.

OK, I don’t really know either of you, but my take on this.
When I saw the spoiler posted in the thread you started, Munch, it came across to me as good-natured teasing. I didn’t see anything that to me was indicative of ill-will or malice, just an attempt at humor.
Calling someone a fucking jackass, however, goes well beyond good-natured teasing. That’s a term that should, in my opinion, be reserved for people who have done serious harm, not people who tease you now and then.
Your analogy with the carpet, makes no sense. There is no comparison between the two events. One, as previously mentioned, is good-natured teasing, meant to annoy a tiny bit, but to have no physical repercussions. The other would be a spiteful act, with physical repercussions, and I highly doubt anyone, even the perpetrator of such an act, would ever think it was meant to be funny.
Maybe you had an extremely rough day and needed to vent about something, but c’mon, getting this worked up over a spoiler box??? You’ve used the things yourself, so give the guy a break. Accept that it was meant as humor, not as meanness.

Casey, no it’s not. I have not made any broad demands or requests. I made one request in one particular thread that I started, and I did so politely. I haven’t done anything of the sort in this thread. If you see differently, please direct me to it, so I might clear it up.
