Greensboro/Raleigh NC questions

Hello,
I’m moving to Greensboro with my job. I was looking at all the apartments on West Market and it turns out that this area is considered to be fairly high crime. I don’t know what’s going on. A lot of it looks like thefts from cars, but there are a few burglaries. Otherwise, I don’t know if it’s just a lot of crazy college students that’s generating the problems. Well, anyway, I got a bit scared off from the 5300-5500 blocks of W. Market and I was looking at a 2BR apartment about 2 blocks behind Fisher park. It’s pretty close to the city. Should I worry much about this neighborhood. It seems good. Again, it looks like a few car break-ins, but nothing too much. I did see 1 or 2 house burglaries which is scary. Otherwise, I think I might need to rethink what I’m doing and go to other parts of the city or on the outskirts. I would really appreciate any insight into the neighborhood of Fisher park. Thanks!

I hear Greensboro is infested with zombies.

Hey odyzeus,

I think I’ve lived within a couple of blocks of both places. Is the 5300-5500 block of West Market near the intersection of West Market and Dolley Madison?

Of all the places I’ve lived in Greensboro, Fisher Park is my absolute favorite. (I lived on Magnolia near Fisher Ave in the late 90’s.) There’s so much within walking distance that you could go days without getting in a car. I’m looking to move again soon, and I’d go back there in a second if the school system we were in now wasn’t great.

The only trouble I had with crime in Fisher Park is that vagrants would occasionally take the spare change from my car. It was an '84 Escort that I never locked. Every couple of months I’d go out to find some coins gone, but everything else in the car was absolutely fine. (I mean, as fine as anything could be in a 15-year old '84 Escort.)

You might also check the apartments off Elm downtown. Decent location. Not sure about the price. Good luck!
