Princess Di was a young, uneducated and dysfunctional woman, yet became one of the most ubiquitous icons of our time. She was remarkable by how unremarkable she was.
And in the era of Paris Hilton, that isn’t even remarkable anymore.
At least Diana tried to do some good in the world, constrained as she was by her circumstances.

People with AIDS. People with no hope. People whom no one else in her world would even speak to, much less touch. After how long does playing the Naivety Card wear thin and become " Choses Stupidity" or " Self Induced Ignorance" over educating oneself?
Go to hospitals and nursing homes all over the world. Put smiles on the faces of the sick and hopeless. Bring international attention to children crippled by land mines. Raise tens of millions of dollars for medical research, the arts, and philanthropic causes. When you’ve done all that, come back and ask your question.

Good grief, if I had the money (and the face/body) to do so, I still wouldn’t generate all the press she did. Every so often there are women ( not men, interestingly enough.) that the world salvers after to the point of stalker obsession.
The question is is would she have done all that charity work if she didn’t generate so much press? How much charity does the rest of Charles’ horse faced family do with nary a flank of photog’s after them 24/7 as opportunists jumped in head first to cash in on her image.
She seemed to have two distinct persona’s. Her public life of raising awareness, which is commended, and the vapid insecure, suicidal flakey side that only slowly came out after she died.
Oh yeah, I have done loads of volunteer work in a group home. For my brother. Not just press visits for a couple minutes in a perfectly lit, clean, non-smelly room. It is one thing to show up for something that is depressing, smelly and warm day after day and quite another for a hour of photo ops and hugging.

Exactly…on a public level, she did all that was asked of her, and more.
I don’t see Diana as being ignorant at all. Is Paris Hilton even dimly aware of the suffering in the world? Who knows? But Diana went out there and found places of suffering where she could be of help. That is far from choosing to be willfully ignorant. In what areas do you believe she was lacking, in terms of educating herself?

Okay, so I’ve never paid attention to stuff about Diana. Could someone point me somewhere that explains why she is supposed to be stupid/naive/whatever?

If I could suckle on the taxpayers’ teat and live in the lap of luxury, I think I would be more than willing to do charity work. Sounds like a pretty good lifestyle after all.
I simply do not believe Di ever had to get up and drive to work in the snow, fog and crap to work in some shitty dead end job for shitty pay.
I have very little sympathy for her, if poverty is such a noble thing, then why don’t the rich have the market cornered.
