Princess Di has been dead for 10 years. 10 YEARS. And for some reason those damn Brits can’t get her off their minds. It feels like her death has never left the news and I don’t even go looking for it. IT just POPS up every couple months. Continued speculation over a FUCKING CAR CRASH. It’s not like it was some cryptic death that deserves nonstop ongoing coverage. It’s not even just the media/tabloids who continue the Di hype. The British justice system keeps flogging that dead horse (no pun intended) with the latest of what seems like many “inquests” into her death.
Chirst, keep that shit out of our news you goddamn Brits. We may be interested in some lame shit like Britney Spears custody battle or who said what racial slur last night, but at least the shit is current, not a DECADE old.
If it should teach us anything, it should be that you shouldn’t have exposed columns just off the shoulder. If they had either poured a concrete filler wall between the columns or attach a guardrail to the faces of the columns next to traffic, she would not have died.
Don’t blame us goddamn Brits - only that small subset of us who keep going on and on about Di. I for one would have been just as happy if she’d been consigned to history the day after the funeral. :rolleyes:
I think you’ll find it’s that the British justice system has been reluctantly persuaded to carry out the first and only inquest by the media and various conspiracy theorists. There was an inquiry and a French inquest, but no British one.
Preach it. Parts of our media are fucking obsessed. However, as long as your media choose to suck it up, I guess you’ll have to suffer along with the rest of us.
Other lessons: Even if you’re tired of the flashbulbs, don’t get your drunken driver to hare through city streets at speeds more suited to a light aircraft; but if you do, wear your seatbelt - as the sole survivor of the crash did.
I’ve had to hear news about Di pretty much ever since I first heard the news. I was so fucking sick of it that a small part of me was almost relieved when she died.
“Well, they’ll have a couple months of death coverage and then I’ll never have to hear about her again,” I thought.
Poor, naive, me.
Instead, I got a decade of TV specials, TV movies, conspiracy theories, and endless fucking tributes.

Strawman. Most Southerners will tell you it’s the Reconstruction, not the war, that sticks in their craw. Perhaps that’s because the effects of the Reconstruction still linger and the carpetbagging never ceased.

True. I shouldn’t have said “small subset”. Unfortunately newpapers and mags can and do boost sales figures by putting pictures of Saint Diana The Martyr on the front cover, and they couldn’t do that if the readership wasn’t out there.
OTOH, if she’s getting coverage Stateside and Down Under, the same comments apply. Deal with your own lamers who put money into the pockets of the media who bang on and on about her, and the problem will solve itself.
The obsession I to which I refer is exhibited in The Daily Express which has had a picture of Di on the cover of the paper pretty much every single fucking day for the last ten years (now alternating with pictures of Madeleine McCann, or sometimes both). It’s a piece of shit rag - but it’s way, way, way more obsessed than, say, The Guardian or The Telegraph.
Actually IME it’s Americans who are crazy about the royal family, which baffles me to NO end. Why do we even care? Didn’t we throw off the shackles, yadda yadda yadda? Didn’t we free ourselves? Stop talking about stupid people that have nothing to do with us!
