Probably my favorite way of preparing seafood is to grill it outside on the BBQ…
I have a few favorite recipies for both shrimp and salmon, that are easy, healthy and incredibly tasty, and these have become my “go to” seafood meals of choice.
For some reason, I am in the mood for scallops (I recently saw a travel or cooking show that featured scallops, and it reminded me I have not had any for a long while) and jumbo sea scallops are on sale here this week, so I wonder if anyone has a marinade, glaze or other method for fixing scallops that you could recommend.
Also, any other tips for creating a tasty dish (cooking suggestions, stuff to watch out for when buying) using the large sea scallop would certainly be welcome!!!
Thanks, Matthew
IMHO, sea scallops on the grill don’t need nuthin’! When they get caramelized, their scallopy magnificence is intensified. NOM NOM NOM
Coquilles St. Jacques in a classic and very tasty.
Yeah - don’t put a whole lot on the scallops. Their delicate flavor will be overwhelmed by much more than, say, a touch of lemon and a quick brush of teriyaki sauce.
Bacon-wrapped scallops are a horrible, no good, very bad idea.
One of my favorite simple preps is to just grill or pan-sear the scallops (if you can get the dry-packed ones, get those, as they sear better and aren’t pumped full of sodium tripolyphosphate, which causes them to take on additional water) with a little oil, salt, and pepper, and then serve drizzled with coconut milk with some (Thai) red curry paste beaten in.
I don’t remember where I saw the recipe, but my fave was seared, then served with a ginger/lime sauce.
Thanks for all the suggestions, I will try and decide what sounds best and go to the store tonight…
Just have to choose a suitable beverage to pair with the scallops and I will be in good shape!
Enjoy your weekend, Matthew
You could put them in cheesy potato slices, and you’d be the first person ever to honestly serve scalloped potatoes.
