I’ve noticed at various grocery stores (at least in Savannah) they’ll go for a while selling only Lawry’s spices and then a while selling McCormick’s. They’ll also have Spice Island at the same time.
Is there some sort of contract deal? I don’t recall seeing both Lawry’s and McCromick’s in the same store at the same time.
Any grocery store working Dopers out there?
It’s the old “Cross my palm” way of doing business. If a company wants to get onto supermarket shelves they have to pay, and pay big time. Eye level shelves are more expensive than the ones either further up or down. It’s always said, “The first fill-up is free.” Said company will stock the shelves full of their product, in lieu of actually “buying” the space. The supermarket chain will, hopefully, see increased sales/profits on those items, and re-order them. Sometimes it doesn’t work out, and at the end of a reasonable time those products/brands may disappear. They may return sometime, maybe not. Capitalism-nothing like it.
