Gross-ery store

I kept expecting them to make this pun on the animated series of Beetlejuice, but they never did…

I’ll never understand it! I mean it was right there! Gross-ery store!

I like pie. I’ve never felt compelled to mention it before, but it’s true.

The term “grocer” and “grocery store” both derive from the fact that such merchants bought things by the gross (144 = 12 dozen). I’d be tempted to wager they just stumbled across an archaic spelling and thought it was funny enough to use.

Nevermind.

One time, I went shopping.

and came back with pie. wanker

I thought this was going to be a thread about the grossest things we have seen at the supermarket. Every now and then you may see something on the shelf and wonder, “who on earth would ever eat THAT?!”

I can’t think of any examples right now, though, or I would share them.

You mean, like potted meat? Just the name alone shudder. The concept of red meat in a can weirds me out for some reason. But I’d have to go with various organ meats–chitlins, beef hearts and deep-fried chicken gizzards, anyone?

MENTAL NOTE:

Politely decline all dinner invitations offered by Angel Heart.

Well, there was this one time…at Band Camp…

Pickled pigs feet…
why?

When I worked at a grocery store, we sold a lot of this. I think it’s used in Jamaican jerk cuisine. Seriously.
