Music groups that you used to like, but have no interest in any more.
Me: Spice Girls. I was in Iceland when the second (I found out it was the second after I got back to the states, where the first one, ‘wannabe’ had just hit) video came out. “Say You’ll Be There.” This group had everything, I thought, catchy tune, hot chicks, classic cars, and some weird, yet not poorly done special effects. I picked up the album, and actually grooved on a few tracks. After they became this big ‘girl power’ group, I gave the CD to my then-girlfriend’s 8 yr old daughter.
When I was in high school (late 80s), I was a HUGE Kiss fan. I dressed up in the makeup for halloween, made a Kiss sign out of aluminum foil and X-mas tree lights, etc. I would buy their new albums on the day of release and camp out overnight to buy concert tickets.
These were the “dark days” for Kiss fans. The band tried to be contemporary glam, as opposed to classic Kiss glam, and thus became a hair metal band. But, I loved it. Of course, my friends and I couldn’t wait for the rumoured reunion to happen, complete with makeup.
Then, in the 90s, it happened. I heard that Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer (the guitarist and drummer) were pretty much fired by Gene and Paul, so Ace and Peter could return for the reunion tour. I also heard about a shelved album that the unmasked band was ready to release when the reunion happened, and the lawsuit that was filed to release the album.
I quickly stopped becoming a Kiss fan. I still love the music, but I refused to go to see the new tours, even though it was my dream just ten years ago to see just a concert. The crass and obvious “reunion” offended me, and I felt truly bad for Bruce and Eric, having been dumped so unceremoniously.
Now, I hear that Kiss is returning to my area this fall for the second time on the “farewell” tour, which came here to great fanfare in the spring. Allegedly, at the time they stated they would never play Washington (or anywhere else) again after the tour ended, and sure enough they’re coming back for more. Grr.
The sad part is in one of their songs they reference getting stoned. As a tot, I always wondered why someone would sing about being tied to a post in the center of town and being ‘stoned’ by the townsfolk.
If only my parents knew what this little germ of info would do later on in my life…
Who else? Hmmm.
Had a couple Bay City Rollers albums.
I think I’ll stop there. Some of my choices then were truly sad.
I forgot how much Metallica used to not suck when listening to Ride The Lightning and Kill 'Em All on my trips to Ohio in the car.

Me too! I had over 200 posters covering every square inch of the walls in my bedroom, all Duran Duran. I had every one of their albums. I dreamed of growing up and marrying John Taylor. I even owned the Power Station and Arcadia albums, just because members of Duran Duran were in those groups. Then Roger and Andy left and I became disillusioned with them. However, I confess that just this year, I bought their greatest hits CD. I’m no longer obsessed with their bodies, but I still like the music.
Actually, they’re not big, but they have a very devoted cult following. They sell out all their gigs, but they’re not at very large venues, just clubs.
I’ve seen them just a few times, as my friends’ band has opened for them, and my last gf was a huge fan of them. Personally, their studio work has generally unimpressed me, but live they’re incredible, and their Live Noise album is one of the better live CDs I own.
Well, interesting thread as I’m currently revisiting the music of my youth. (the wonders of Napster) Most of the stuff I used to love, I still love. Very few exceptions.
Actually, the bands I used to like but don’t anymore fit into that category due to their recent actions.
Metallica: top of the poop list. Mainly because of their attitudes. I wasn’t to thrilled with the later albums either, but I can respect a musicians desire to grow and change, even if I don’t like the new music. It’s their attidudes (Napster debate brewing) that have driven me to say I actually dislike them.
Kiss: All time favorite band when I was very young. They were heavy and cool. Then they came out with this soft, glam pissant stuff and I lost all respect for them.
In both these cases, I still enjoy the ‘old’ stuff but haven’t the time of day for anything new. One point; I will never, ever spend another penny on anything Metallica.

There’s nothing wrong with liking The Cure and Morrissey.
When I was younger, I listened to metal and such, but one day it just all seemed lame to me, that’s when i started listening to (what was called back then) “Modern rock”
now i’m more diverse, but i still can’t stand most cheesy hair metal.
