Ted’s more of a professional “replacement”, isn’t he?
Grace Jones started out as a model, incidentally, which makes her subsequent career(s) much more comprehensible.
Dr. Joyce Brothers is the quintessential famous-for-being-famous celebrity. As a child, I foolishly assumed she was famous for, y’know, psychology or something. I was well into adulthood before I learned her real claim to fame was winning a bunch of money on a game show.
I submit for your approval the all-time champion nobody guest stars: Charlie Brill and Mitzi McCall, an allegedly married celebrity couple. I say allegedly because I never heard of them before OR after their long-running gig on the old Match Game.
Ah! Charlie Brill played Capt. Lipschitz for much of the 1990’s on one of my favorite Made-For-Basic-Cable-TV shows, Silk Stalkings! He never had many lines in these shows–mostly some early “here’s the case” lines and some closing “job well done” lines along with a few bits during the episodes, usually showcasing something exciting like his chronic hearburn–and, IIRC, his sometimes-shown TV wife was played by his real-life wife, the above mentioned Mitzi McCall.
But except for that, I’ve got nothing else on him.
And I shoulda thought about Dr. Joyce Brothers. Good one.
