I think your hair looks terrific like it is. Kind of like Benedict Cumberbatch’s. Nothing wrong with that.
My hair is just a bit curlier than yours and I grew it long several times. It can be a bitch to manage when it’s at that stupid middle stage, but it does get better. Nowadays, since I’m older, I will brush it back and get kind of a Beethoven look. (But it’s short now. My wife says it makes me look younger.)
There are plenty of resources for information on long hair. Even here. Best tip I ever got was to keep having the ends trimmed so they don’t split and get crappy looking.
That’s what my hair does (or used to, it’s grayer now so the texture would probably be different if I had the patience to grow it out) but only if I wash it and let it dry without doing ANYTHING to it. If I combed it or pulled it back while it is drying as TriPolar suggests, it straightens it out a lot more.
Kenny G was on @midnight the other night – he and Weird Al have the same hair as always; just their faces get older.
The flippy-ups come from where in the curl your hair is cut; mid-curl or higher, it’s going to stick up. When my hair was at its waviest I had to be careful to get it cut by someone who knew how to cut curly hair, so I asked specifically when I made the appointment and reiterated it in the chair.
