Growing Puya alpestris

I’ve recently discovered the World’s Coolest Plant[sup]TM[/sup]: the sapphire tower (aka Puya alpestris). I’ve got a bad case of the WANTs for this one.

I’m trying to figure out exactly how you grow one, and what climate you need to live in, but my Google-Fu is on the frizz. I now know that it needs lots of sunlight, is drought-resistant, and needs to be brought in doors for the winter. But I’m having a hard time finding details.
I mean, I do have to know more than that to take care of an exotic plant, right? Help?

See info: here. Also here. Sounds like they aren’t so hard to grow but maybe take a long time to get big. Looks pretty cool tho.

By the way your second link is no good.

There’s a local wholesale nursery San Marcos Growers that sells them so I assume that they grow in our local Mediterranean climate. The plants are sold in nurseries the west coast. They are native to high barren slopes in the Andes of southern Chile.

Thanks. So it looks like I can grow it in New Jersey in the summer, but I would have to take it inside for the winter.
