Growth Strategies for Software Companies (by Aspatore Books Staff)

I am toying with the idea of buying that new Amazon e-book reader. So I am cruising Amazon. Why the heck Growth Strategies for Software Companies selling for $1,075? Is the book really that good? Is it a typo? I knew textbook prices were out of line, but this seems extreme.

I wonder if they lost money when they sold it for an even thousand bucks?

Marketing or copyright reasons you think?

Perhaps there is an error in the system. It is showing as 99 dollars for me.

I speak of the Kindle electronic book format.

Well, think of the money you save in gas.

No ideas on why a book would cost a thousand dollars? Consider this a gentle bump. Not often I can stump the Dope.

It appears you are looking at two different things. There is a book by that title consisting of 3600 pages that sells for $1500 dollars. The one you linked to is only 100 some odd pages long. I think the one you linked to only has the chapters written by the industry guys, while the 3600 one includes a ton of examples, legal documents, case studies, etc.

The big one is called a “collection,” too, which might imply that they had to pay lots of money to each of the original publishers in order to compile stuff. Just a WAG.

Never in my life have I heard of such an expensive in-print book.

Once I bought (well, my company paid for it) a trade publication that cost somewhat more than that. It was published by a company that specializes in the telecom industry, and was a survey and analysis of telecom billing systems currently on the market. It was easily worth the price to us in the research. I have no idea how much it cost them to compile it or what profit they made on each copy. I think it was available only from them direct, though.

You describe this as a textbook–that sounds heavy to lay on a college student.

Here’s a similar publication, an industry forecast for $4500. So you can see that you’re not just paying for the paper and ink.
