GTA folks taking the TTC: planning on going to work Monday?

Don’t bother! TTC strike confirmed.

I never take the TTC but I should have a lovely 2+ hour commute past Toronto to get to my Mississauga work place (from Scarborough).

Yippie!

Oy vey. Luck to all us stranded commuters. sympathetic snogs We’re gonna need it…

Oh bother.

Looks like I’ll be walking to Islington to catch my Mississauga bus…

I’m off Wednesday. If the strike is still in effect I offer my personal taxi services from Scarborough. Only $100 to work, one way

What the heck does this have to do with Grand Theft Auto?

GTA for us Trannadopers = Greater Toronto Area

(GTA refers to Toronto by itself; we merged with a bunch of outlying boroughs, such as Scarborough, Mississauga, Etobicoke, a long while ago)

Gonna try to work from home for as long as it lasts – hopefull not too long. Still think something will get tossed together over the weekend, and that the Union is trying to give Miller a chance to look like a hero.

Are they cancelling all services? When we had a strike the other year, essential services kept things going during rush hours. (This didn’t help me much, as my class ended at 9 PM. I walked home a lot.)

Everything, as far as I know. :frowning:

More to the point, what does this have to do with Grand Theft Auto players Trying To Conceive?

Here you go Zebra and Hal:

I’m trying to figure out how Mr. Lissar will make it to and from work. We live in the Beaches, he works near North York Centre. He’ll be working midnight to 8 am this week. I have no idea. I’m glad I can walk. I hope this is spontaneously resolved during the weekend.

Former Torontonian here. My condolences to you all. Boy, a transit strike, and the Ex isn’t even happening! They must be pissed to go now instead of August.

I will never be able to forget the summer they went on strike during the CNE, and the streetcar drivers doing minimum service on King and Queen streets were letting on the maximum number of passengers - only to find that they were running the heat at full blast in the car. 95 degrees outside, 120 inside. Got a grievance with your management? Take it out on the public. Smart move.

No bus strikes down here. No union to strike.

Well, for those of you who have never lived through a Toronto Transit Commission strike before, you’ll get to find out why “TTC” really means “Take The Car.”

I lived through a few TTC strikes when I lived in Toronto, and well remember the roads clogged with cars as people tried to get around. But I also remember the goodness of a number of drivers who would stop to pick up people walking, sometimes miles, to work and school. Somehow, the city pulled together, and I hope it can do it once more.

Good luck, folks!

Good luck to everyone. I remember how chaotic it was for me when the last strike happened 5(?) years ago. Hopefully, for my sake, this will get cleaned up before I come back from school.
