My mom has a painting in her house which I’ve always been rather fond of. I’ve since seen it elsewhere a few places, but nobody seems to know anything about it. I’ve also tried Google, and gotten many hits, but none what I’m looking for.
The painting shows two children, apparently brother and sister, crossing a rickety log footbridge. The girl is perhaps eight years old, and the boy is five or so. They both look scared, but the girl is reassuring her brother. Meanwhile, hovering above and behind the children is a large, magnificent angel.
The style of the painting is realistic, or slightly impressionist. Mom thinks that it dates from the late 19th century, but we got it second-hand, so she’s not sure.
Does anyone know the title or artist of this painting?
Do you mean this ? The artist’s name seems to be Simeone, who did a slew of religious paintings, but when I tried to Google it all I got was some soccer player named Diego.
That appears to be it! This is odd, though. Googling on “guardian angel Simeone” does net me a better image, but it looks like that’s a coincidental hit: No artist is listed for the bridge-crossing one, but it’s on the same page as another Guardian Angel painting listed as being by Simeone. The overall styles (particularly the angels) look different enough in the two paintings that they don’t seem to be the same artist. It looks like the painting is from a vision by one Sister Maria Antionia, but I’m not sure if she’s the artist.
This does look like a good lead, though, Hanofer! Thanks!
Available in the Palm Room of the Interstate Holiday Inn this coming weekend!
Good luck!
