I mean, it’s been 70 years since U-505 last went to sea, and her engine room STILL reeks of diesel fuel today. I can only imagine what that thing smelled like when it was airtight and packed full of 70+ basically-teenagers who hadn’t had a shower in months, no deodorant, only had so many uniforms to rotate through, had to share one bathroom, and were living off a diet of pickled sausages, tinned fish, hardtack, and bean soup.
