Was the director ever \blacklisted?
#26: Yes (I totally missed that question, I’m quite sorry.)
#27: Yes
#28: No
We’re getting close to 30… choose your questions wisely.
No, but I’ll call this a freebie.
Do the actors communicate primarily though body movement?
Is it Ratataplan?
#29: Yes
Title Guess #1: Brzzzzzz! NO
Is it Gone With The Wind?
Why was this a freebie?
It is known that it’s not an American movie and made between 1977 and 1990, so it’s significantly after the era and outside the area of the Hollywood blacklist. Saying “No” doesn’t really help narrow it down and I can’t find any foreign directors on the blacklist.
Plus you guys need all the help you can get.
Title Guess #2: <checks the envelope to be sure> No, sorry.
I’ll go ahead and waste the last question.
Did the actors vocalize in any way, such as grunts and groans, a fictional language, shouting, etc.?
Sorry, when I thought of that question I was remembering tdn’s synopsis of the answers so far (1965-1990, not that he’s to blame for my question) and not the subseqent question narrowing it down further. However, the director I was thinking of was blacklisted, made films in another country after that up until 1980, and only died in 2008. I was thinking of a mis-remembered, language-wise, Rififi, which had minimal dialogue, by Jules Dassin.
Carry on. I’m dying to know what your answer is.
#30: Only a little bit. No fictional language or significant grunting-as-language type stuff. No shouting.
So should we keep going with more questions or should I just give the answer?
I think it ends at 30. You “win”. What was it?
Le Dernier Combat (English: The Last Combat) directed by Luc Besson, his first feature.
In a post-Apocalyptic world with air so polluted humans can no longer speak, sand dunes burying skyscrapers, and fish raining from the sky, a lone man struggles to survive against gangs, thugs, and the elements. He befriends a scientist and fights a villainous young Jean Reno.
:smack: Definitely should’ve gotten that…
Anyone mind if I do the next one?
(Go!)
What fun is it if you give us the answer right away?
Is it either a crime, sci-fi, western or war picture?
#1. No.
ETA: Garygnu, I should have known.
