iampunha: point for anecdote. The only other one I could find was synecdoche. Another point for strawberry.
ren: point for buckskin. I didn’t think of thickskinned, but it is hyphenated in my dictionaries.
lurkernomore: point for squeegee. Exegee? What’s that? Protégée is spelled with the accent marks in my dictionaries. I probably would have allowed a point for it, but lurkernomore got the one I was thinking of too quick.
That leaves only EINAC from this batch. You guys are pretty good at this.
Rule clarification: I’ll allow the use of an electronic dictionary, as long as you don’t derive any significant advantage compared to using a print dictionary. What I wanted to prevent was people using a search function found on some electronic dictionaries.
CTM-ejectment
URYT-jury-tampering?
CTM=faCTMan?
URYT=eURYTypic?
EINAC . . . protEINACeous?
HROD . . cHRODa/e?
Another rule clarification: In my lists, I follow no rule against using letter sequences at the beginning or end of words (hence squeegee). I doubt I would ever use a sequence from the beginning of a word, especially since dictionaryies are allowed.
Another point to iampunha for proteinaceous.
The standings for the second round so far:
iampunha: 3
lurkernomore: 1
ren: 1
Stay tuned for the next 5, probably sometime around 6 A.M. Eastern Time.
CTM=faCTMonger? faCTMill?
uryt=purytylene? There are probably a few organic compounds with this letter combo. Maybe an arcane spelling of puritan?
HROD . . asHROD?
point to Mind gamer for aFGhan
point to Eggs à la Ted for wheELWright
point to AudreyK for swasHBUckling
That leaves HIEP and ESST
I’ve posted the answer to the WYZ word here.
That was a typo. The link is to the YZG word.
RTR-partridge, cartridge
point to scratch1300 for guESSTimate**.
HIEP is a tricky one. It’s not exactly common, but probably not unfamiliar to you. The trouble is that the word isn’t spelled the way I would have guessed. (HIEP is in the standard spelling, not an alternate spelling).
SDR=dresSDRawer
CKB=kiCKBack
RTR=faiRTRade
11 - childhood
13 - killjoy
- GPL = ganGPLank
Funny, I thought up three letter sequences of my own and was about to post “GPL”, but you beat me to it.
- GWI = biGWIg
The other two of mine:
[ul][li]RSAP[/li]KULE[/ul]
That was fast. Two points for lurkernomore and 2 for scratch1300 Before I lose track, the updated standings for this second round are:
iampunha 3
lurkernomore 3
scratch1300 3
ren 1
Mind gamer 1
Eggs à la Ted 1
AudreyK 1
Those left to be solved:
10. HIEP
14. GPL - one more besides gangplank
15. NKG
The last five words in this round will be posted tomorrow morning.
