They lied, because the spontaneous explanation holds them blameless, at a time when they really needed to be held blameless. A planned attack, even if it had been handled without loss of life, raises questions about whether they should have known.

Says you, with no evidence… and it’s still far less plausible than my explanation. My explanation fits the facts and doesn’t require any assumptions of malice- just minor mistakes that happen in the immediate aftermath of virtually every crisis of violence. Whatever she said, the qualifier she added “we won’t know for certain until the investigation is complete” makes the “lie” accusation pretty silly.

I don’t see anything in there about what the administration knew. It doesn’t even come up - the whole thing is just about how the people stationed there knew security was insufficient.

Everybody in the fucking DOS knew that security was insufficient, just like it is in most all shithole outposts in the third world. This isn’t reporting; it’s just rehashing old news that wasn’t news in the first place.
