How do you explain [deleted], [deleted] and [deleted], then?
Edit - names deleted on legal advice.
Ad block.
The board management should be terminally embarrassed by the ads they force on the unsuspecting. As should the people making those ads.
You’re doing a great job.
In the type of people attracted to the office/post?
At my age I am mostly thinking Nixon.
In jack-boots.
Why, thank you.
I’ve always visited the site with ad block, I don’t think I’ve ever seen them. I assume they’re pretty bad based on comments I’ve heard over the years.
I subscribed because I spend a lot of time here and it seemed like the right thing to do.
Except our MODS here seem more “hip” and “with it” than our current POTUS.
cheers…
For what it’s worth, the Powers that Be have recently cleaned up the ads a fair bit, because word came down from Google that bad ads were one of the reasons we were getting downgraded. In particular, the dreaded “popunder” is now gone.
Now I’m picturing all you mods in a secret, James Bond villain like secret lair deep down in the ground with a gigantic screen above, all trigger happy to push the big red BAN hammer. The “moderator control panel”, you know…
I like to picture them in a Mystery-type van. With a little control room in the back. Wandering around the world minding their forums and banning bad guys. I think they all dress like hippies and eat fast food. It’s silly I know. It makes me happy. groovy man!
I like to picture them as Street Judges, patrolling Mega-City One on their “Lawmaster” motorcycles.
I became a member today. I have to admit, it was kind of a thrill to see my username with “Member” under it.
I’m an old-school Harley guy. Dredd can keep his Lawmaster rice-rocket.
So the Powers that Be gave zero shits about our computers getting infected from the shitty ads until Google told them they could possibly make more money by not letting our computers get infected from the shitty ads?
Yeah, that’s worth paying for.
So they don’t care that their own users are getting malware, but they do care when Google says that some ads are reducing their ranking.
Good to know.
Isn’t that how businesses are though?
“Sir, our product has injured a dozen children this year.”
“Who cares? It’ll build character and think of the thousands of other kids NOT injured.”
“But sir, the media is calling it one of the biggest consumer risks of the year…”
“Good, so more people will hear about our product!”
“…and shares have dropped 15% this quarter.”
“By gum, we need this fixed post-haste! Get manufacturing on the line!!!”
