Guillermo del Toro Frankenstein Movie Discussion

At the time I first posted I had not got far enough into the movie to have any comment about the special effects that others have mentioned. Now that I have, I concur that they’re excellent, and it’s even further increased my appreciation of this movie.

In the final analysis, I think this is a great horror movie and a fine retelling of the Frankestein story. As others have said, it has its flaws, but they don’t detract from its impressive overall quality, and as I said earlier, the sets and cinematography are stunning. Highly recommended.

As for comments about the acting, there’s nothing there that’s going to win anyone Oscars, but it seemed to me to be perfectly acceptable.

The flaws did detract for me. Frankenstein as a '30s camp works great, trying to bring that story with all of it’s plot holes to modern, serious cinema just doesn’t work. There was just way too many, ‘why did he do that’ or ‘how does that work’ moments.

Same here.

And honestly that disappoints me - I really wanted to like it.

Did it click that she was also playing Victor’s mother?
