Guitar chord help

What is the fingering on the chord that is up on about the 3rd fret (at about 0:12, for example). I might be over complicating this and maybe its just a barre chord but it doesn’t look like it to my eyes.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Oh yeah, that!

Basically the open G without the top or the bottom two strings.

Maybe I gave the wrong timestamp. Looking again, its about :26 - :30. It looks like he has the E string pressed at the 5th fret.

I stand by my assertion above, I don’t hear that fifth fret A note. He’s not fretting the low E, he’s muting that and the A string.

Sounds like G major.

If he’s muting the A string, then the 3 in your diagram is wrong, if I’m understanding it correctly.

You’re reading the tab upside down.

I’m looking for the fingering pattern.

OK, well thank you. I’ll try that when I get home tonight.

Use your 1st finger to fret a D on the third fret of the B string. Let your 1st finger then mute the high E so it doesn’t ring. Then use your ring finger to mute the low E and A strings. The only strings that ring out are the open D, the open G and the fretted D on the B string.

Probably using drop “D” tuning on the low “E” string.

I’ll go back when I get home and listen to this on headphones, but on my laptop I don’t hear that low note.

That’s it.

I love that song.

It’s possible he’s also playing the “A” string on fifth fret for a unison “D” (probably not).

Could be. You can also see and hear when he plays a D chord, he’s playing all six strings.

Oh, yeah, octave "D"s, very nice.

I don’t know where he stole it from, but John Denver, on “Rocky Mountain High,” does the drop D/play 6 and 5 string at same fret for added bass oomph for D chord, G chord, C chord and A chord (I’m sorry, he capos up 2 frets and now I’m confused re chord names. I’ll dig out the sheet music if you have further interest.).

Yes, I do. Thank you.
