Guitar Hero III players- I need help!

Specifically, on the Guitar Battle with Tom Morello on Medium. I can beat anything but the Morello battle. I’ve tried the tutorial. Please Help!

Morello’s a wuss - wait till you hit Slash!

Basic way to beat the boss’s is simple - be sure to get 1 to 3 power ups, (same as SP) then use them just before the boss has a long string of notes - same as using Star Power - The Whammy attack is especially usefull against the bosses. Use them one after the other or even as a double attack when you can.

If you get hit with an attack, just play your way thru it the best you can - about the only one you can’t survive is the “death drain” but those only happen in the sudden death portion.

The Death Drain is what kills me. I’m doing fine, perhaps even beating him, until we get to the sudden-death part.

My basic strategy (this got me through all three Medium and the first Hard battles):

  1. Don’t do attacks unless there are notes on your opponent’s side. It sounds obvious, but the first time through, I’d throw attacks at Morello as soon I got them. But since sections of that are “you go then I go”, there wouldn’t be any notes for him to mess up on, so nothing was gained.

  2. You can save up attacks (up to three). Unleashing a “difficulty+” and a “double-notes” immediately afterward is often practically an auto-win.

  3. You can only win by making them lose (bottom out their rock meter from missed notes). And the computer opponent doesn’t appear to ever miss any notes unless they’re under the effect of an attack. So focus mainly on playing well enough to keep your own rock meter up, always try to nail the power-up runs, and send over attacks at least two at a time when they’ve got a string of notes starting.

By doing the above, I’ve beaten Morello twice (on Medium and Hard), and Slash and Lou once without ever getting to sudden death.

In case it isn’t obvious - you’re not trying to out play or keep up with him - you are trying to drain his rock meter - you have to use the attacks to cause him to miss enough notes that he literally loses - and you really want to do that before the sudden death part.

I just beat devil on hard last night. The basic strategy is to save up at least two or three powerups, then wait for your opponent to get to section of a song that has a lot of notes, and hit him with the attacks, one after the other, until he dies. Don’t use them one at a time - one probably won’t kill your opponent, and by the time you’ve got another he’ll have built up his rock meter again.

Also, be aware that if you get hit with the whammy bar attack, you have to use the whammy to get rid of it. Whammy back and forth as fast as you can. If you get hit with a button attack, you have to press that button as fast as you can to clear it. This may be obvious, or it might not be. But there you go.

Tom Morello was cake for me. He went down right after I used my first power up.
Slash took a few tries.

Just did Slash on expert today. I was screaming at the TV. He was really pissing me off. Then, on the tenth try, I finally got past him. I’m afraid of the final tier on Expert. Very afraid.
