Gukumatz, a word, please.

For the record, it didn’t break up anything on my iPhone. Nor did Gukumatz’s wordier example. YMMV.

The mod is being unreasonable. We shouldn’t have access to large fonts and bright colors if a mod is going to give a warning for it. Both of these guys have participated for a long time and a warning for using the capabilities of the SDMB is petty.

I say that when I am absolutely opposed to crimson and white colors. My own favorite combination is burnt orange and navy.

Do you know what a strawman is? If you have to exaggerate to make your point, you shouldn’t be giving a warning.

My question would be that if the font was too large for the board’s formatting, why wasn’t it only reduced to a size that would remedy that problem?

Besides, can’t we find a compromise?
Oak wants 7, Guku wants 2. Can we settle in the 4-5 range?

I agree with Zoe. Are there circumstances under which use of the 7-point font is appropriate? If not, the board shouldn’t allow it. If so, this seems to me like about as appropriate a circumstance as possible.

And you should learn what a warning is in this context.

And while there clearly wasn’t anything wrong with Oakminster’s large “go tide”, he also shouldn’t get so clearly riled up about getting the piss taken out in a thread designed for fans to poke fun at each other. He should really change his name to Balsaminster if he’s going to be so thin-skinned about shit like this.

I don’t know, but I like it as a username!

First, they came for the 7-point Red Font posters…

  1. Ridiculous
  2. Ridiculous
  3. Ridiculous

I don’t see the problem. It didn’t mess anything up on my phone.

Is that the new way of bragging that you have the iPhone 5?

I’m practically a Luddite. I have a 4s.

Come on. I got a mod note many years ago for a smilie that was deemed inappropriate for the forum I was posting in. I had the same angst at the time but on reflection I guess they can’t limit what is available to certain parts of the message board.

IS THIS TRUE??? If so, it changes everything! Wait…no, it doesn’t.

I hate huge fonts, they’re completely obnoxious. However, rather than moderating their use on a case by case basis, why not simply reduce the maximum allowed size to e.g. 4? It’s trivial to do, and would prevent issues like this from arising in the future. Is there any reason the max is set at 7 apart from the fact that it’s the default setting?

Update: I was misremembering the options available for the size tags, it turns out you can’t actually limit the size range without installing a hack. The only option is to disable the size tag completely.

And if people like the OP continue to abuse the privilege of having access to larger fonts, the mods will be forced to take them away from us. It’s the only option!

What’s next, posters start abusing the bold function!!!

There is avBulletin for mobile devices in VB 5.

It would probably prevent this wanton, out of control, use of unacceptable font sizes from overwhelming the smaller displays of mobile devices.

It may- if you tried to understand the post rather than trying to be formulating a witty response.

I remember when we first acquired the :dubious: smilie, it was perceived as the non-verbal equivalent of calling someone a liar and that it wasn’t to be used in places and situations where calling someone a liar wouldn’t have been acceptable.

:dubious:

I remember when capital letters were first allowed, and few of us dared to use even one lest we be banned for shouting unnecessarily.
