Have there ever been commercials for firearms on television?
Would that even be permitted? What if Glock wanted to put an ad on toughting how it’s a good gun for home defense or (gasp:eek: ) concealed carry. Would they be allowed to, or is that a product, like tobacco, that is taboo for television? I don’t recall ever seeing an ad for guns on t.v.
Just think what the background music would be.

I’m not certain, but I think I saw a rifle or shotgun commercial on a cable channel. The program that was on was about hunting, I think.
Like the airplane commercials that air occasionally on Speedvision, gun commercials would (if I did indeed see one) be targeted at a very small segment of teevee viewers.
FWIW, I remember watching a TV show once about off-the-wall commercials. Several of them came from a gun shop owner in Indianapolis. This guy had wild white haiir, and he touted his guns with Matthew Lesko-esque enthusiasm.
Oh, and our CBS station airs infomercials for the NRA on Saturday mornings. Does that count?
IIRC there are firearms (typically rifle/shotgun) and ammo commercials on the the hunting and outdoorsman shows. Even without explicit commercials the extended firearm review and comparison and “new stuff” segments of these shows more or less amounts to a commercial for the gun or ammunition manufacturer they are “reviewing”.
Not just commercials, but a weekly half-hour program.
Oh, man!! I’m from Indy and I’d forgotten about that guy!!
His name is Don Davis and he would say at the end of every ad:
“I don’t want to make any money, folks, I just love to sell guns!” And then give this really smarmy laugh. “Heh, heh, heh!”
He apparently did rather well with this because he was one of the wealthiest guys in town.

with all the coverage of the gun debates on CA shows…I didn’t think they needed to advertise…especially when the Aussie network 9’s 60 MINUTES is concerned!!
